Daisies & Everlastings

The following plants are suitable for rockeries, ground cover or in massed plantings in combination with grasses or other flowers. Many are found growing naturally in remnant grasslands or woodland habitats.

Ammobium alatum, Winged Stem Daisy
A perennial herb flowering from Dec - March 0.5-0.8m x 0.5m growing mainly in NSW and Qld. The leaves form a rosette. The flowerheads are about 2cm across with white bracts surrounding yellow tubular flowers. Useful as a rockery plant or in a massed planting. Excellent cut flower.

Calocephalus citreus, Yellow Beauty, Lemon Beauty Heads
A dwarf perennial herb with silver grey leaves and bright yellow flowerheads found in Qld, NSW, Vic, Tas and SA. Grows best in partial or full sun. It’s frost tolerant and withstands extended dry periods. An excellent ground cover on clay soils. Not common in cultivation.

Chrysocephalum apiculatum, Yellow Buttons, Common Everlasting
A mostly evergreen everlasting with golden yellow flowerheads in small to large clusters which is found in most of Australia. Spring and summer flowering. Useful as a ground cover. Grows in well drained soils and full sun. Tolerates moderately salty winds. A hardy plant suitable for a rockery or mass planting.

Chrysocephalum semipapposum, Billy Buttons, Clustered Everlasting
A spreading suckering perennial with golden flowerheads up to 1m high x 1.5m wide. Prefers shade from the hottest sun. Grows in well drained soils and tolerates dry conditions. The colourful, long lasting flowers can be dried for floral arrangements.

This amazing perennial herb has electric blue flowers from Dec-Jan. It has sharp spiny leaves and grows from 10-60cm in full sun. Requires moist, well drained heavy soils. A useful rockery or container plant.

Leucochrysum albicans, White or Yellow Paper Daisy
A variable perennial herb with grey linear broad hairy leaves found in Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic, SA and Tas. Flowers in summer with papery flowers with yellow or white bracts. Usually the dwarf form.

Vittadinia muelleri, Narrow-leaf New Holland Daisy, Fuzzyweeds
A woody perennial subshrub with stems branching from the base 10-30cm x 30cm from Vic, Qld, NSW and Tas. Dark blue flowerheads form fluffy seedheads which break up when dry and are carried on the wind. Capable of growing on poor soils. Propagate from seed. Buy seed

Fast growing erect annual or perennial herb with soft fresh grey green leaves. A spectacular daisy with bright yellow papery flowers in late spring to early autumn. Prefers a well drained soil.
