Alisma plantago aquatica, Water Plantain
Water Plantain is an erect perennial semi-aquatic herb 0.5-2m x 0.5m flowering from Nov-March. Found in NSW and Vic. It’s easily cultivated as a bog plant by sowing seeds in a pot standing in water. Water plantain has pale pink flowers 1 cm across with 3 flimsy petals. The flowers are delicate and showy in a massed display.
Persicaria lapathifolia, Tall Knotweed
Pale Knotweed is found in all states It can reach 2 m tall and is ideal for edges of pools, dams and lakes. It has creamy pink flowers on tight drooping heads.
Patersonia sericea, Native Iris, Silky Purple Flag
Native Iris grows in a wide variety of habitats in Qld, NSW and Vic. It requires a sunny location with a well drained soil. Established clumps 0.2-0.5m x 0.1-0.3m produce good floral displays with mauve Iris flowers from Jun-Jan. |
